Thousands in Stock: LTM Rejects Claims of Substandard License Plates

Monrovia – The head of the Liberia Traffic Management (LTM), Dr. Hage, has pushed back against growing public concerns over the quality of newly issued vehicle license plates, describing the viral narrative as misleading and incomplete.

The response follows a widely circulated video in which some motorists alleged that the new plates are substandard—citing issues such as fading, peeling, and reduced durability.

However, according to Dr. Hage, the situation has been mischaracterized.
“Thousands of license plates that meet higher international standards are currently in stock at LTM,” he stated, emphasizing that the institution has not compromised on quality.

According to him, the challenges being experienced are not reflective of a system-wide failure, but rather stem from temporary shortages affecting specific categories of plates.

He explained that these shortages are largely due to shipment delays linked to ongoing international disruptions, including the Iranian conflict, which have affected supply chains.

“As a result, in limited instances, alternative measures had to be taken to ensure continuity in service,” he noted.

The clarification comes amid mounting public scrutiny, with motorists across Liberia raising concerns over what they describe as the poor quality of some of the newly issued plates.

But LTM maintains that the broader system remains intact and compliant with modern standards, urging the public to avoid drawing sweeping conclusions from isolated cases.

Dr. Hage further assured that efforts are underway to resolve the category-specific shortages and restore full uniformity in plate issuance.

The LTM boss also stressed that maintaining the integrity of Liberia’s vehicle identification system remains a top priority, noting that steps are being taken to strengthen consistency, transparency, and public confidence.
