Monrovia — Cecil Dennis III is calling for greater responsibility on social media, warning that reckless online posts can have lasting and damaging consequences on individuals and their families.
In a statement, Dennis emphasized that the internet “does not sleep” and “does not forget,” cautioning that a single post can follow a person for years, sometimes for life.
He urged users to consider the long-term impact of sharing private or sensitive content, noting that what may appear as entertainment to some can cause deep emotional harm to others.
Dennis highlighted the potential effects on victims, including public humiliation, loss of confidence, and mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and emotional trauma. He added that such situations can also affect victims’ families, particularly children who may be exposed to online ridicule directed at their parents.
“Behind every viral post is a real person, a real family, and real pain,” he said, stressing that online actions often have consequences that extend far beyond the digital space.
According to him, the impact of online shaming can disrupt personal lives, workplaces, relationships, and communities, with some individuals withdrawing from public life due to embarrassment or fear of judgment.
Dennis is urging the public to exercise caution and empathy when engaging on social media platforms, calling on users to refrain from sharing content that could harm others.
“Stop sabotaging other people’s lives,” he said, appealing for a more responsible and humane use of digital platforms.
