MONROVIA, Liberia — The Charge d’Affaires at the Nigerian Embassy in Liberia, Rahmat O. Mohammed, has called on members of the Nigerian community to uphold responsible conduct and project a positive image of their country while living abroad.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with West Africa Voice, Ambassador Mohammed stressed the importance of unity, accountability, and disciplined leadership among Nigerians residing in Liberia, noting that individual actions often shape broader perceptions of the nation.She urged nationals to remain mindful of their role as unofficial ambassadors of Nigeria and to contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s social and economic development.“Nigerians must continue to be good representatives and work collectively to uplift the image of our country,” she emphasized.
The envoy highlighted that leadership within the Nigerian community carries significant responsibility, particularly for those who have acquired Liberian citizenship or hold influential positions within community structures.
According to her, such roles demand a high level of integrity, lawful conduct, and constructive engagement with Liberian authorities.
Addressing concerns reportedly raised by some Nigerian business operators regarding access to consular assistance, safety, and legal support, Ambassador Mohammed dismissed suggestions of any lapses in embassy services.“There is no complaint, formal or informal, with the embassy regarding legal difficulty or security concerns,” she stated, adding that the mission remains unaware of any unresolved issues involving Nigerian nationals.
The Charge d’Affaires reaffirmed that the embassy maintains open channels of communication and stands ready to respond when concerns are formally presented.She further underscored what she described as a strong and professional working relationship between the Nigerian mission and Liberia’s security institutions, noting that collaboration remains effective and responsive.On service delivery, Ambassador Mohammed disclosed that passport processing at the embassy has improved significantly in recent months, with efforts underway to reduce waiting times and enhance efficiency.
She also noted that the embassy continues to provide assistance to stranded Nigerians when necessary and works closely with the leadership of the Nigerian Descendants Union to address community concerns.
Reiterating her message, Ambassador Mohammed called for greater unity and internal cooperation among Nigerians in Liberia, stressing that collective responsibility is key to maintaining a positive national image abroad.
