The Ministry of Public Works Liberia has announced the temporary closure of the Cestos River Bridge in Rivercess County to allow for major rehabilitation and upgrade works.
According to the Ministry, the closure will take effect from May 8 through August 8, 2026, a three-month period during which the existing bridge will be dismantled and replaced with a new, modern structure.
Officials say the current bridge, which carries a weight limit of 25 tons, will be replaced with a stronger facility capable of supporting up to 80 tons—significantly improving transportation capacity in the area.
The project is part of the government’s broader push to upgrade road infrastructure, enhance safety, and ease the movement of goods and people across the region.
To manage the situation, the Liberia National Police will be deployed to control traffic and maintain order throughout the duration of the works.
Authorities are urging motorists and residents to comply with traffic instructions, cooperate with officers on the ground, and exercise patience as the project progresses.
While acknowledging the inconvenience the closure may cause, the Ministry emphasized that the long-term benefits of the new bridge will outweigh the temporary disruption.
